How portals work in MangoMap
Understand the Maps and Data pages of your account portal, what visitors and signed-in members see, and which maps and datasets appear on each page.
The portal is your account’s public web page. It has two pages - Maps and Data - where visitors browse your published maps and datasets. Signed-in members see the same pages and URLs, with controls to manage the content.
The two pages
Maps lists published maps. Data lists public datasets. Both pages share a header, banner, and footer that you set in Customisation. Each dataset page shows the header and footer too, but not the banner. Visitors switch between them using the page tabs at the top.
If you’ve connected a custom domain, the root of that domain redirects to the Maps page.
The portal is always on. If no maps or datasets meet the rules below, the pages stay empty.
Visitor mode and signed-in mode
Everyone sees the same portal pages. The controls depend on the viewer:
- Visitors see the browsing experience only — search, filter, and open maps or datasets.
- Signed-in account members see the same pages plus admin controls for creating maps, importing data, duplicating, and deleting. Which controls appear depends on the member’s account role — see Account roles reference.
What appears on the Maps page
For visitors, a map appears on the Maps page when all of these are true:
Allow public accessis on for the map.Publishing modeisPublic.Show in public portalis enabled.
Maps in Link-only or Password mode are web-accessible but unlisted — they do not appear in the portal even though they have public URLs. A Public map can also be hidden from the portal by turning Show in public portal off.
For signed-in members, the list also includes workspace content: maps they created, maps shared with groups they belong to, and every map in the account if they are the account owner. The portal also acts as a content management view.
The diagram shows which maps a visitor, a member, and the account owner see on the Maps page.
See How map access works in MangoMap for the full access model.
What appears on the Data page
A dataset appears on the Data page when its access is set to Public. There is no per-dataset portal toggle — for datasets, Public and listed-in-portal mean the same thing.
Signed-in members also see datasets they created, datasets shared with their groups, and every dataset if they own the account.
See How dataset access works in MangoMap.
Branding and configuration
The portal’s name, banner, footer, default layout, default sort order, and connected custom domain are set in Customisation, not on individual maps or datasets.
