Maps portal reference
Look up every element on the Maps page of the portal, in order, from the header and search bar to map cards, badges, filters, and pagination.
Every element on the Maps page of the portal, in the order they appear. The page lives at /<account-slug>/maps, and on a connected custom domain the root URL redirects here.
Everyone sees the same portal page at the same URL. This reference covers the signed-in member view, including the controls and chips that map creators use. Each section also states what visitors and signed-out members see.
For the conceptual model (what the portal is, the two pages, visitor vs signed-in mode), see How portals work in MangoMap. For the rules that decide whether a given map appears at all, see How map access works in MangoMap.

| Visible on | Desktop and tablet only — hidden on mobile |
Shows the banner headline and body content set under Customisation. On mobile, the banner appears in the navigation drawer so it does not push content down.
Search and filters bar
A sticky horizontal toolbar that contains every browse control. Sits below the header on desktop, and below the mobile top bar on mobile.
Page tabs
| Where | Left end of the toolbar |
| Choices | Maps, Data |
Switches between the Maps page and the Data page. The icon-only toggle uses a map icon and a database icon with tooltips.
Search box
| Where | Centre of the toolbar |
| Searches | Map title, description, creator name, tags |
| Behaviour | Results update as you type |
A text input with a magnifying-glass icon and a clear (X) button when the field has a value. Matches are case-insensitive substrings against any of the four fields. On mobile the search collapses to a magnifying-glass icon and expands inline when tapped.
Layout toggle
| Where | Right side of the toolbar |
| Choices | Card, List |
| Default | The portal’s default layout, set in Customisation |

Advanced filters button (admin)
| Where | Right end of the toolbar |
| Visible to | Signed-in account members only |
A Filters button with a filter icon that opens the Advanced filters popover. On mobile it collapses to the icon only. Visitors do not see this button.
Map grid
The main page body. Renders as a grid of cards or a vertical list, depending on the Layout toggle.
| Where | Below the search bar |
| Page size | 12 maps per page |
| Empty state | A map icon with the message “No results” and guidance to adjust search or filters |
Card view
Three cards per row on large screens, two on medium, one on small. Each card has a 16:9 thumbnail at the top and content below.
List view
A vertical stack of rows. Each row has a square thumbnail on the left. Beside it are the title, a one-line description, and the metadata chips. The … menu button is at the right end of the row (next to the title on mobile).
What’s on a map card
As a signed-in account member with permission to delete the map (the creator and the account owner), each card shows the map’s publishing status in metadata chips below the title and description. This view helps you manage the portal.
Top to bottom on each card:
- Thumbnail — a 16:9 image (the map’s saved thumbnail).
- Title
- Description
- Access-mode badge — a chip with an icon and label showing the map’s publishing mode. See Access-mode badges below for the full set.
- Portal-visibility indicators — two small circular icons:
- Eye / Eye-slash — shows whether the map is listed in the public portal. The map’s
Show in public portalsetting and access mode determine the state — see How map access works in MangoMap. - Magnifier / Magnifier-minus — shows whether the map is allowed to appear in search engine results.
Group Editablechip — shown when at least one access group has edit permission on the map.- Creator chip — the creator’s first name with a person icon. Tooltip shows the full name and creation date.
- Updated chip — the last-updated date in short form (e.g.,
Mar 4) with a calendar icon. Tooltip shows the full date. …menu button — top-right corner of the thumbnail. Opens the Map card menu.
What anonymous visitors see
Anonymous visitors — and signed-out account members — see a stripped-down version of every card: only the thumbnail, title, and description. None of the metadata chips render publicly: no access-mode badge, no portal-visibility indicators, no Group Editable chip, no creator name, no updated date, no … menu. The card is intentionally clean for the public-facing experience.
If you want to see what your audience sees, sign out and open the portal in the same browser — the chips disappear and only the cover content remains.
Access-mode badges
The access-mode chip on each card uses one of four labels, matching the map’s publishing mode:
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
Public |
Accessible to anyone with the URL. |
Link |
Accessible only through the private share link — the standard public URL is hidden. |
Password |
Requires a password and the URL. |
Internal |
Public access is off. Only signed-in users with permission can open the map. |
For the full access model and the difference between Link and a fully Public map, see How map access works in MangoMap.
Map card menu (admin)
Opened by clicking the … button on a map card. Contains:
| Item | What it does | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|
Duplicate Map |
Creates a copy of the map and opens it. | Anyone who can delete the map. |
Delete Map |
Opens the Delete confirmation dialog. Red text. | Anyone with the Delete map permission (the map’s creator or the account owner). |
If you can do neither, the … button does not appear.
Pagination controls
| Where | Below the map grid, when there is more than one page |
| Page size | 12 maps per page (not user-configurable) |
Shows the current page, total pages, and a count of items being shown (e.g., Showing 1–12 of 47 results). Previous and next buttons and numeric page buttons let you jump directly to a page.
Advanced filters popover (admin)
A dialog titled Filter Maps, opened from the Advanced filters button.
Three filter sections, in order:
Access type
A chip for each access mode present across your maps. Pick one or more to limit the grid to maps in those modes.
Date
A pair of date pickers — Start Date and End Date — and a range slider. A map is included when either its created date OR its last-updated date falls within the range. The pickers are prefilled with the date bounds of the maps in your account.
Owner
A chip for every account member who created at least one map. Pick one to limit the grid to that member’s maps; picking another chip replaces the first.
Apply and Clear
Two buttons at the bottom of the popover:
Apply Filters— applies the chosen filters and closes the popover.Clear All(orResetwhen no filters are active) — clears all selections.
Applied filters persist for the session.
Delete confirmation dialog
| Where | Opens when you click Delete Map in the Map card menu |
| Permanence | Deleting a map is permanent; you cannot recover it |
The dialog has a warning icon and shows:
- A heading —
Delete map. - A body paragraph explaining that the map configuration, visualisations, and settings will be permanently removed, that the underlying datasets are not affected, and that the action cannot be undone.
- A
Map details:summary with the map’s title, creator, and access mode. - Two buttons —
Cancel(text button) andDelete map(red contained button).
Footer
| Where | Bottom of the page |
| Configured in | Customisation → portal footer content |
Shows the footer content set under Customisation.
What appears here
The page lists the union of two sets of maps, depending on who is viewing.
For visitors (and signed-out account members) a map appears when all three of these are true:
Allow public accessis on.Publishing modeisPublic.Show in public portalis on.
Maps in Link-only or Password mode are accessible at their URLs but never appear in the portal listing. A Public map can also be hidden from the portal by turning Show in public portal off.
For signed-in account members the listed set widens to also include:
- Maps the member created.
- Maps shared with any access group the member belongs to.
- Every map in the account when the member is the account owner.
See How map access works in MangoMap for the full access model and How to publish a map to the web for the per-map publishing flow.
What this reference does NOT cover
- Portal branding — name, logo, banner, footer, default layout, custom domain — see How to configure the portal.
- Per-map access settings — the controls that decide whether a map appears here — see Map access.
- The map editor itself — opening a card or list row takes you into the editor, which is documented separately.
- The Data page — see
/docs/portals/data-portal-referencefor the parallel page.
